SEPARATE DIVISIONS OF THE CHINESE MEDICINE REGISTER

There are two distinct divisions of the Register relating to acupuncture practice and to Chinese herbal medicine practice separately. Each division requires specific qualifications. The Board advises that patients should check exactly what their practitioner is registered for.

A copy of the full Register can be purchased from the Chinese Medicine Registration Board for a fee of $500.00. The Register is available in electronic format but the Board does not provide mailing labels. A single extract costs $50.00 and multiple extracts from the Register cost $200.00 (maximum).

Registration is current until 30th June of the current year.

OTHER HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS
The Health Professions Registration Act 2005 exempts chiropractors, dental practitioners, medical practitioners, nurses, optometrists, osteopaths and physiotherapists from the title restrictions IF they are endorsed or notated by their own board, to use the title acupuncturist. If you are seeking such a person, you should check with the respective board to confirm the status of the particular health care practitioner. The Osteopaths and Physiotherapists Registration Boards provide a search facility to specifically check on endorsement for acupuncture.
