Specific Registration
Practitioners who are aware
that they do not qualify for general registration may apply for specific
registration if they believe that they fulfill the required
criteria.
Applicants need to fit and address the requirements outlined in Section 7 (1) of
the HPR Act (PDF 760Kb) that states the following:
The responsible board may grant specific registration as a health practitioner to an applicant who has completed a course of
study and any supervised practice in the health profession regulated by that board that does not qualify that applicant for
general registration—
- to enable that applicant to fill a teaching or research position approved by the responsible board in the health
profession regulated by that board;
- to enable an applicant from another country to practise as a health practitioner in Victoria if that applicant,
with the prior permission of the responsible board-
- has exchanged practice with a registered health practitioner for a limited period; or
- has been engaged to provide locum services for a registered health practitioner in Victoria;
- if the Board is satisfied that, in order to meet an identified need for a Chinese medicine practitioner, it is necessary for a person having qualifications and training in the nature of the applicant's to practise in Victoria
- if the Board is satisfied that it is in the public interest for a person having qualifications and training in the nature of the applicant's to practise in Victoria for a limited period or to undertake limited practice.

Non-practising Registration
To apply to re-register as a non-practising practitioner in the acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicine practitioner

Temporary
Visitors to Australia
Temporary Visitors
to Australia who wish to practise acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine or
Chinese herbal dispensing in Victoria MUST be registered. Otherwise,
their practice in Victoria may be in breach of the Health Professions Registration
Act 2005, and they may be prosecuted.
Unless eligible for general registration, please note that applicants
need to fit and address the requirements for specific registration outlined
in Section 7 (1) of the HPR Act.

After the Board Receives Your Application
The
Board will consider the information contained in your application form
and attached documents. Sometimes, the Board will seek further
information from you, or seek information from other sources (in
accordance with your authorisation in Part D of the application form).
If the Board decides to grant you registration, you will then
be sent an invoice for your registration fee.
Once your registration fee is received, the Board will register you in
the Register of Chinese Medicine Practitioners. At that point, you will
be issued with a Certificate of Registration and be legally recognised as
a registered practitioner.

before making its final decision (see section 15 of the Act).
